A hook and line used for catching fish.
Fishing Tackles can be used on fishing holes that are found in the open huts built atop frozen lakes and ocean. They are built by combining Line with a Hook on a Workbench or through the crafting radial menu. In order to catch fish, the ice must first be carved out of the fishing hole using a Hatchet, a Prybar, a Hammer, or a Hunting Knife. Once this is complete a player can select how long they want to fish in 1 hour increments, similar to selecting sleep time. The longer one fishes, the more one could potentially collect fish.
The fishing hole will not freeze over while in use, but leaving it will cause it to ice over and it will need to be broken again. Partially frozen holes break quicker than fully frozen.
The line has a 10% chance of breaking each time a fish is caught, although a higher skill ranking in ice fishing can reduce this chance. In general, saltwater fish in the Coastal Highway are heavier and more caloric than in Pleasant Valley or Mystery Lake, although the Smallmouth Bass in Timberwolf Mountain is comparable to the large Coho Salmon in the highway. Either fish can be heavy enough for the It was THIS Big! achievement.
In general, a fish is usually much heavier for less calories than meat from terrestrial animals. However, all fishing huts have a pot bellied stove that will allow the fish to be cooked immediately if desired. Potentially, one could gather fish indefinitely, as fishing lines aren't always consumed like rifle bullets.
Fishing tackle may also double as a Sewing Kit if needed.
