Hopeless Rescue is one of the Challenges that was added to The Long Dark to modify the Sandbox mode. Added in version .321, the player must complete three objectives within a seven day timeframe.
Objectives[]
The player will always spawn in the Trapper's Homestead in Mystery Lake. They are given a total of 168 hours in order to complete three objectives. The first objective is to travel to the summit of Timberwolf Mountain and retrieve the Distress Pistol from the wreckage of the plane. The second is to take the pistol to the Lonely Lighthouse at Desolation Point. The third is to travel to the top of the lighthouse and fire one of the shells from the top.
Tips[]
- Because the difficult is set at Voyager, be careful of climbing the ropes. It is impossible to make a straight ascent to the top of the summit without resting on a ledge.
- Remember that Mountaineering Rope can be taken from it's anchoring spot and moved to another location. This might help avoid Wolves or a Bear.
- The Distress Pistol can be used like any other type of firearm. However, the player must save a shell to complete the game.
- Bring a Hacksaw with you when climbing. There are a number of Cargo Containers that can have many supplies, including cured pelts and Coffee.
