Mountaineering Rope is a Tool found in The Long Dark. It looks like a red elastic rope tied in a knot.
Use
Mountaineering Rope's sole use is to provide the player a way to climb up sheer cliff faces. The player can find a suitable outcropping, then place the rope to allow for a descent. Once the rope is in place, the player can also use it for an ascent, although this takes up much more stamina.
Several ropes are already placed in certain climbable areas of each region, particularly in Timberwolf Mountain. These ropes can be moved if the player wishes.
Location
A rope can always be found in the Mountaineer's Hut in Timberwolf Mountain. It can also usually be found in the Forestry Lookout in Mystery Lake. They can randomly be found elsewhere.
