Wolves
Wolves are a non-elemental danger in sandbox mode. They seem to roam solitary, therefore packs do not present any added danger. They can on rare occasion spawn in buildings. A wolf will attack your character if you wander too close.
Update: Wolves can now attack in groups of two
Detection
Nearby wolves may be heard howling or growling. Avoid wolves by keeping your distance. If a direct line of sight is possible, the wolf will attack.
Countering An Attack
If you are attacked by a wolf:
- Quickly tap left mouse button to build up power.
- Tap the right mouse button to release built up power.
Two fully charged hits will kill a wolf. Speed is essential to prevent too much blood loss and death. After the wolf is dead, you should:
- Apply a Bandage and Antiseptic (players spawn with both)
- Harvest the wolf before it freezes
Like any corpse, the wolf will begin to freeze. If it freezes enough, a Hunting Knife will be required to collect loot.
Loot
Wolves can provide:
- Meat (6.5 kg total; each 0.5 kg provides between around 1500 calories)(harvesting can be time consuming, beware low temperatures)
- Leather (Repairs)
- Guts
